I really wish that someone would explain this to me.
Why are Republicans trying to keep the economy in shambles?
From Huffington Post:
Senate Republicans Oppose Economic Development Administration They Once Supported
Here is a job creation bill that Republicans USED to like! They filibustered a program that they once praised, stating they wouldn’t allow it to go forward without GOP amendments.
The blocked the re-authorization of the Economic Development Administration, which provides grants to local projects. DeMint (R. SC) admitted supporting the bill in the past. John Cornyn (R. Texas) said the grant, “would pave the way for the creation of new jobs and business opportunities, which will strengthen the region’s economy,” but planned to vote against cloture.
Chuck Grassley (R. Iowa) admitted that even though he praised the EDA projects and it’s results, he would not support cloture “because the GOP must maintain its leverage.”
Personally, Susan Collins (R. Maine) is the best. She also supported the bill but was unsure she would vote for cloture.
“I have seen first hand that it has led to the creation of jobs in my home state and has been a catalyst for private sector investment,” Collins told HuffPost. “Having said that, I want to make sure there are amendments to the bill.”
What is wrong with these people?!?!?! I thought they were all for job. They are blaming Obama for not creating jobs, yet they are voting against programs that create jobs! They were also all against meaningless amendments being attached to bills, but THEY want to attach amendments.
I really would love a Republican to explain this to me because I’m having a hard time seeing this as anything other than an effort to destroy the middle class.
Anyone want to call them and find out why they aren’t supporting a jobs bill?
